Install an eSIM on iPhone

Add a cellular plan to your iPhone using a QR code or manual details supplied by the provider.

General menu path Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service → Add eSIM

This is not a compatibility guarantee

This result finds an installation guide based on your device name; it does not confirm that your device supports eSIM. eSIM support can differ by region, carrier, and hardware variant even for the same model. Before buying, check for “Add eSIM” or an equivalent option in Settings and confirm that the device is carrier-unlocked.

Before you begin

Three quick checks

  • Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and have the package QR code ready on another screen or in print.

  • Check Carrier Lock under Settings → General → About; the device must not be carrier-locked.

  • Keep iOS up to date. Menu labels may vary by iOS version and language.

Setup

Step-by-step activation

  1. Open Add eSIM

Go to Settings → Cellular or Mobile Service and tap Add eSIM.

  2. Scan the QR code

Choose Use QR Code and scan the code shown on the delivery screen. If the provider supplied manual details, choose Enter Details Manually.

  3. Add the plan

Complete the on-screen confirmation and label the new line so you can identify it during your trip.

  4. Select mobile data

Under Cellular Data, select the new eSIM for data. To avoid unintended charges, review Allow Cellular Data Switching and leave it off unless needed.

  5. Finish arrival settings

Turn on Data Roaming for the new eSIM only if your package instructions require it. Keep data roaming off on your primary line.

After setup

Check your connection

  • Check that the new eSIM is on, selected for mobile data, and has data roaming set as instructed by the package.

  • If you have no connection, briefly toggle Airplane Mode and then restart the device.

  • Enter an APN only if the provider supplied a specific value in the delivery instructions.

Troubleshooting

If a step does not work

Add eSIM is missing

Check the regional variant, carrier lock, and iOS version. If the menu is absent, confirm compatibility with Apple or the seller before buying.

QR code will not scan

Increase screen brightness, show the QR code on another device, or use manual SM-DP+ details if supplied by the provider.

Installed but no internet

Check that the new eSIM is selected for mobile data, data roaming matches the package instructions, and any supplied APN is correct.
